HAMBURGER VIRGINS

I love the concept of this Burger King produced movie, bringing burgers to people who have never had burgers in their lives, making them taste test between a Whopper & a Big Mac. BUT, the presentation is so... Koyanisqaatsi'd & This American Life'd out. If i made this movie, it would be hosted by Hulk Hogan or by the Banana Splits or Little Richard or something, they'd go in, shoot off fireworks, show that being American means strength & entertainment & dynamism & awesomeness all mixed together. It wouldn't be a taste test either, we'd use REAL burgers, not from those chains & it would be about the promotion of the concept of America as communicated by hamburgers.

If you're not clued into PUZZLING EVIDENCE maybe you should GET A CLUE. You can download some podcasts HERE.

"Deranged “edits” segue into a cascade of echoing glossolaliac madness, the voicing of lyric ruminations from the free-falling brains of disintegrating personalities. And some people, demented individuals, obsessively record every word and squealing sound effect. Of course, you may just hate it." Hal Robbins describing Puzzling Evidence.

Beavis & Butthead in the desert on magical cactus.

I popped into my close, personal friend Shawn Mediaclast's Museum of Unfine Art yesterday to say happy birthday & he was watching THIS. Luckily for me, the sound was off, so i didn't have to listen to the White Zombie that's over it.

Time Travelling Punk

I only knew Tenpole Tudor from the Great Rock & Roll Swindle but the other day i uncovered these total gems. What's the deal with Rockabilly & History Punk? These guys are all associated with Malcolm McLaren, so that's the connection, Bow Wow Wow & Culture Club as well. Time Travelling Punk. Unfortunately, i couldn't find a clip of the great scene from the Great Rock & Roll Swindle with Tudor doing "Who Killed Bambi?".

Tenpole Tudor - Wunderbar

I'm having a bit of a chicken & egg moment with Tenpole Tudor & the Adicts. Wunderbar & Viva La Revolution came out in the same year (1981) & corr blimey govner, but isn't there a striking similarity!? Both bands started around the same time as well.

The Adicts - Viva La Revolution

Tenpole Tudor - Swords of a Thousand Men

Speaking of Malcolm McLaren & the construction of bands & culture as packaged items, i'd argue that Punk was initially intended to be the next stage of Bubblegum Music as the Ramones might as well have been a constructed band, although they are cooler because they are were their own "masterminds", but they thought they were doing bubblegum & were influenced by the Bay City Rollers & the Sex Pistols were a concept band with a svengali & all that. Bubblegum from the dregs with swastikas & speed, but bubblegum just the same.

Rock & Roll Highschool

Why i am the best teacher in the known world, & why most parents will never really trust me. This is still how i see school & most authority figures, even if i am both. Speaking of which, these videos all really speak to the true rebellious & cartoony brains of rock & rollers & this kind of thing is never seen in videos today. The songs & videos are all obviously aimed at kids & god bless 'em for that. Jimmy Page said something like, "What i liked about the guitar is that it wasn't taught in school."

Van Halen - Hot For Teacher

The Cure on Chorus TV France

Further evidence of the possible glory of TV.

Check out the opener on this show.

Nina Hagen on the Merv Griffin show with Don Rickles. It's crazy to see the New Wave New Age meet the Vaudeville holdovers, & yet, on TV, it's completely appropriate.

Mr. Potato Head Fakes

I have a special condition where i am obsessed with inanimate objects with faces attached to them. My favorites tend towards bananas. Bananas with faces do it for me every time. So you must imagine the crazed aesthetic spasms i endured upon finding this amazing online museum of Mr. Potato Head Fakes. Marvel at the insane variety of toys available in the glorious past! LOVE the amazing permutations of one simple concept! CRY at the new Mr. Potato Head design & WISH you had an old one of your very own! REMEMBER that Mr. Pear Head you used to have!

Psycotic Pineapple

psycotic pineapple

I used to have a crazy looking pineapple pencil topper when i was in elementary school. It was part of a set of other pencil toppers including a corn cob & an apple. Anyhow, it was very surprising to me when i was walking around Berkeley some time in the 80s & saw a show flier with the same pineapple pencil topper on it, with the name PSYCOTIC PINEAPPLE. This connection & the great art from the band's bass player John Seabury create the obscure ephemeral feeling i am obsessed with.

Psycotic Pineapple are still around in some form or another as PYNOMAN.
Here's a bunch of Psycotic Pineapple gig posters.
You can download Psycotic Pineapple's 45 "I Wanna Get Rid of You"
You can download Psycotic Pineapple's "Where's the Party" LP.

The terrifying Edison silent Frankenstein movie.

Also, trailers for classic Frankenstein & Dracula. Make sure to watch these this Halloween type season.

Philosophy & Theory

Word from the Wisdom Alliance (2/10, Emerald Hand, the Masked Men, etc)

BRAIN STORM: Cracking open your brain like an egg & scrambling it.
Gorillas & bananas.
Put a face on it.
Wear your weapons.
Self-haters will definitely be you haters.
Frankenstein & Pinocchio: separated at birth.
Do it by hand.
The only problem with garbage is that you don't want it. Make garbage people want & it's not a problem anymore.
Thriving sea-monkey colonies soothe the savage beast.
UFO Cereal.
Cereal boxes should transmit wisdom & knowledge.
Venture out into the fog & meet the wild hunt at the park of lost America.
I might be agreeing with Gary Panter about the well-lit milk bar thing.
