Friends of the Red Baron

My boy's doctor's office used to have a great Red Baron type Fokker Dr.I triplane kite in the waiting room, along with some other less cool ones. One day we're waiting for a routine check-up & i notice the kite is gone! Somehow knowing the answer already, i went up to the front desk to ask, "What happened to the Red Baron kite?" The lady behind the desk said, "Oh, we took it down." "That's obvious, but why'd you take it down?" I pressed. "Oh, well, a patron complained about it being associated with Nazis." she said, looking down. My blood began to boil, "Do you know which war he flew in? There were no Nazis in WWI. This is just anti-German!" "Well, when a patron complains..." i wasn't listening anymore. One of the kites they kept up in the waiting room was a pirate ship, which i have NO problem with, except that pirates are played out. BUT, pirates are universally bad characters, even if you're a pirate you know that, but the Red Baron was one of the Knights of the Air, respected even by his enemies during WWI! The Red Baron is also an icon of coolness, very few things look as cool as the red color of his Fokker Dr.I triplane with the black Iron Cross emblazoned on the side. Nothing! After seeing that the plane ride at the Oakland Zoo had removed the iron crosses from the sides of their red planes i knew something had to be done! The Red Baron needed an advocacy group, "The Friends of the Red Baron".

Ever since i started doing "Mr. Sean's Cartoon Club" i've been making these fun little bags of goodies to give out as prizes. This evolved into my Halloween Trick or Treat bags & then the Christmas/New Year's bags. You get some cards, comics, little weird toys, candy & fortunes or jokes. This year i have TWO different kinds of eyeball bubblegum. Come on out to my art opening & be a cool person or come to my house in costume on Halloween night & one is yours!

Dads, Families & Authority

Here's a great piece by John K. about his dad & John's subsequent obsession with authority. I've been re-reading "We've Got The Neutron Bomb" & "Please Kill Me" at the same time, which is great, highly recommended, but there is a passing comment in We've Got The Neutron Bomb by Kim Fowley about how it was the 70s & all the homes were broken by then that really struck me. Of course i know it's true, given that at least half of everyone i know has divorced parents & it is a notable minority that has parents that are still together, BUT, i don't think people understand the insane & terrible consequences of this. Anyhow, in a society that has become disproportionately raised by single mothers & it is uncool to be a man of authority (which is what a man should be), everything has been turned on its head & people don't know up from down. Everyone is responsible for their own behavior & has to take life by the horns, BUT, at the same time, as far as i can tell, alot of this social disintegration has been orchestrated & done by design as a way to destabilize the people of this country. Talking to people these days about anything involving self determination tends towards the revealing of an American who has had their spine replaced with bureaucracy.
